shoparoo logoThis year we are excited to be partnering with a fun, free, and truly easy fundraiser called Shoparoo! Schools nationwide are already earning hundreds and even thousands every year through Shoparoo and it’s a great opportunity for us to really make a difference this year!


Shoparoo is school fundraising made easy: the free app turns pictures of your everyday shopping receipts into cash donations and sweepstakes entries for our school! Yep, it’s that simple. No more cutting labels, selling door to door, or time-consuming coordinating. All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap pictures of your receipts with the app, and voila Just shop, snap, earn!


Get started today:

  1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
  2. Select our school from the list and start taking pictures of your receipts – shop anywhere, buy anything!
  3. The first 20 supporters at our school will earn an extra $1 donation from Shoparoo for their first receipt!
  4. Earn even more Roo Points, or cash donations, by inviting others to join using your personal referral code
  5. You can even select a grade to support and have fun with grade competitions!


There’s no limit to how much money we can raise with Shoparoo – the more supporters, the more we will raise for our school. From 6:00 to 7:15 this evening you meet your child’s teacher and see their classroom in action.  There are a lot of new faces and faculty that are in new roles this year so please stop in to see them tonight.

You can also stop by the PTG table if you would like more info about what we do!  And mark your calendars because our first meeting will be Tuesday September 15th at 6pm in the library.  All parents and teachers are welcome!

Urgent Call for Parent Support of School District Budget

mailboxOur school district is in financial crisis. We have a $1,000,000 shortfall in the school district budget for next year. Our towns cannot possibly come up with this amount of money. To fill this void, our district will have to cut 25-28 jobs next year. That is unacceptable. We were told during a recent audit by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education that we need to hire more classroom teachers, reading and math coaches, interventionists and a curriculum director. How can we follow this advice given our current fiscal situation?

This is how parents and other members of our community can help! Write letters to our State Representative and Senator to let them know that our children deserve the best education and right now we are not able to give that to them financially.

Below is a list of information that can be included in your email to Senator Ben Downing and Representative Gail Cariddi. A rule of thumb is that if they get more than 20 emails on one subject then it becomes a top priority. Imagine the concern if we send hundreds. We need as many people as possible to send an email so that we can get our school district the financial help it needs. Our children deserve this. All emails should be sent with the subject line: Adams-Cheshire Regional School District. Please include the following information below in your email.

  • We have the LOWEST per pupil expenditure in Berkshire County. Our students receive approximately $12,500 per school year. Some districts are as high as $19,000 per student. This is not OK. Our children deserve the best too! Let them know we need their help.
  • Our buildings are old and in need of some repairs that will cost approximately $1,000,000. The roof repair for CES is $300,000. We also have additional maintenance and repairs needed which will cost approximately $200,000. Plunkett needs the roof repaired at a cost of $400,000 and the additional maintenance needed for Plunkett will cost $400,000.
  • Pittsfield and North Adams are eligible for grants that we cannot receive because they are labeled a city and we are a town. These grants would help to fund staff, technology, supplies, etc.
  • Right now we need new computers and MORE computers for both schools. We will begin a new testing in the near future called PARCC testing and that will require students to have computers. Right now we only have enough computers for the students to share. They only receive 1-2 days of computer classes per week due to the lack of technology without a computer teacher. Most schools have a computer for each student and they work with them daily. Our students are at a big disadvantage.
  • We should receive 100% reimbursement for our transportation. This was promised years ago for regional school districts. We only receive 60% (this just changed…) reimburse at this time. We get NO reimbursement for special education transportation or the 2 buses that transport BArT students.
  • The formula they use to figure how much we pay to send a student to BArT has to change. We spend approximately $14,500 per student we send to BArT. We have about 62 children going to BArT. This totals $899,000. This could almost close the gap in our budget.

Please write a letter for our Schools. Make sure you are aware of any meetings or voting that may take place. Our children deserve the best education. They should not have to settle.

Also attend the town meetings and show your support for your school. The towns need to know that education and safety are our top priority. This is not something that can be changed by just one voice. These are your elected officials. Please let them know what is most important to you!

Yankee Candle and Home Heating Raffle Time!

This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and it allows us to fund all of the field trips, performances, and events that the students enjoy each year.  The PTG gets 40% of the sales for this fundraiser and the kidsscreen capture have sold nearly $18,000 worth of product in past years!  That means the PTG is on track to raise almost $7,200.  Thank you!

Home Heating Raffle – drawing October 14th

This one is easy!  Your child will come home with one sheet of tickets for $1 each.  Each ticket enters you into the raffle for a grand prize of $500 toward your home heating bill.  We pay out to any type of heat – electric, gas, oil, wood, we will even pay your landlord if your rent includes heat!  The drawing for this raffle will be at our next PTG meeting on October 14th and the winner will get a call.

First PTG Meeting and Newsletter of the Year!

September 2014 newsletterThe first PTG meeting of the year will take place this Tuesday evening at 6:30pm in the library!  All parents and teachers are members of the parent-teacher group and we love to see new faces.  Childcare is provided as well.

Our Playground is Coming!

That’s right…thanks to all of our fundraising efforts we were able to order the Plunkett Mega Park in time for our students to have on the very first day of school! Families, we need YOUR help. We will be doing a side-by-side playground build on August 21st, 22nd, and 23rd between 7am and 3pm. This project is for ADULTS ONLY as this is a construction site and safety rules and regulations apply.

If you can volunteer time for any part of a day, or multiple days please contact the Main Office at 743-0876 or email Mrs. Little at with your name and phone number. Members of our playground committee will be in touch with more specific information as the dates get closer. This is a very exciting time for our school and community and we need YOUR help to make this project come together in time for school to start on September 2nd.

Golf Tournament Raises $1300!

GolfPosterThank you to everyone who came out to support our golf tournament for the playground!! The weather was gorgeous and we had a great group of volunteers who came to help out.  Through the generosity of some local businesses and individuals we were able raise $1300 in just a few short hours!!  Thank you to Forest Park Country Club for your hospitality and for donating some items to our raffle!  Thank you to the 60 golfers who signed up to play.  Thank you to the volunteers who put in many hours of their time to make this evening a success.  Should we make this an annual event??

In Honor of Eleanor Robinson’s 90th Birthday

thank you noteIt started with an envelope of cash and checks at the school office.  Principal Colvin told me that they had a party for Eleanor Robinson’s 90th birthday, and they told all of the guests to give donations to the  playground in lieu of gifts. I thought that was the sweetest thing I ever heard.  I took the envelope home and entered all of the checks and cash into my spreadsheet of playground donations.  They really added up!  This party raised more money than some of our fundraisers.  But that wasn’t the end.  Over the next few months the checks kept coming!  We have received 31 donations from friends and family of Eleanor Robinson that live locally and have also sent them from all over Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and New Jersey.  Each one with a note, “In honor of Eleanor Robinson’s 90th birthday.”

You’ll notice on the Playground Fundraising page that there is a section with tallies for Boxtops, Pennies for the Playground, etc.  We’ve added “In honor of Eleanor Robinson’s 90th Birthday” to the tally section because the contributions have been so significant and we are so thankful for them.  To-date the total is $1,645.
