Middle School Open House Tonight!! And June Meeting Update

There is an OPEN HOUSE at Hoosac Valley tonight at 5:30pm for middle school families.  There will be tours, information, and a presentation.  We will be there too, so stop by our table to take a chance at our Bella Sky gift basket or to purchase a Hurricane Pride water bottle!

June Meeting Updates:

  1. New playground equipment – vote to approve spending approximately $10,000 to install a new slide play structure that is geared to 2-5 year old children. Order will be placed through Site Specifics for $7k piece plus installation, concrete, etc.  The 2 pole spinners will be relocated to make room for this larger piece of equipment.
  2. Bylaws – several amendments to the PTG bylaws were presented by Erin Mucci. See Minutes6-13-2017.
  3. Elementary & Middle School finances – A discussion of financing 2 separate PTG committees. Vote to allocate  $5000 cash + $10,000 playground piece to elementary school, and allocate $8877 to middle school. Note: another checking account will be opened for the new middle school PTG.
  4. Fundraising – start of year kickoff with Yankee at elementary, middle school will do pies & cookie dough. A more detailed fundraising  plan will be developed in September-October with input from new membership next year.
  5. Election of officers – postponed to September. Each school will call meeting in September and recruit new members and officers.

End-of-Year Activities!

There’s always a lot going on at the end of the school year!  Here’s an update on the May meeting from your PTG:

Principal’s Report –

  • 7 new positions posted (interventionists and SPED and Coordinator), if one of the towns votes down the budget, those new positions will not be filled
  • No parent requests for class placements because many in-house teachers have applied for the 7 open positions and can’t wait until the staff is hired to put class lists together
  • Middle school – departmentalized model, every core subject every day, 4th grade will have 2 teams so each student will have 2 teachers, no study halls, common planning time for teachers, busses will be separate from high school, teachers will escort students to lunch and gym

New Business –

  1. Teacher Requests- 4th grade Howe Caverns – already approved, need check by May 26th
  2. Yearbook – cost to print has increased, we will increase the price by $1, order forms are ready to go – $15/yearbook, $7 for 5th graders
  3. Year end –
    • Field Day June 6th – PTG will provide popsicles (can use freezer in cafeteria) 
    • 5th grade picnic June 6th – PTG will order grinders, buy drinks, chips, cookies – get volunteers
    • 5th grade T-shirts – confirm amount with Kale Skrocki and get check to him
  4. In need of a new Arts Enrichment coordinator – volunteers???
  5. Playground equipment – planning to purchase one new piece of equipment for the playground that is recommended for 2-5 year olds, estimated cost $7k plus another $3k for installation, concrete, mulch, etc.

6/1 & 6/2 – 3rd grade to Pleasant Valley!

6/5 – Gr3-5 Family Folk Dancing!

6/6 – Field Day!

6/6 – 5th grade picnic

6/15 – half day

6/16 – 5th grade graduation!

6/16 – half day

6/19 – half day

6/20 – half day LAST DAY!

November Update

Pie and Cookie Dough Pickup is Tonight!

PLEASE pick up the pie and cookie dough fundraiser orders TONIGHT before 6:30pm in the cafeteria.  We do not have a place to store frozen items so make arrangements for a friend to pick up your order if you cannot make it before 6:30 tonight.

Give-a-Gift will be Thursday December 15th

At this time we are asking for:

  • donations of gifts for our store, each student should bring in 2(or more!) gifts
  • donations of wrapping paper & tape
  • volunteers to help out on Dec. 15

We will need over 600 gifts in total!  Especially for MEN!

Meet The Teacher Tonight

From 6:00 to 7:15 this evening you meet your child’s teacher and see their classroom in action.  There are a lot of new faces and faculty that are in new roles this year so please stop in to see them tonight.

You can also stop by the PTG table if you would like more info about what we do!  And mark your calendars because our first meeting will be Tuesday September 15th at 6pm in the library.  All parents and teachers are welcome!

Our Playground is Coming!

That’s right…thanks to all of our fundraising efforts we were able to order the Plunkett Mega Park in time for our students to have on the very first day of school! Families, we need YOUR help. We will be doing a side-by-side playground build on August 21st, 22nd, and 23rd between 7am and 3pm. This project is for ADULTS ONLY as this is a construction site and safety rules and regulations apply.

If you can volunteer time for any part of a day, or multiple days please contact the Main Office at 743-0876 or email Mrs. Little at littlej@acrsd.net with your name and phone number. Members of our playground committee will be in touch with more specific information as the dates get closer. This is a very exciting time for our school and community and we need YOUR help to make this project come together in time for school to start on September 2nd.

Golf Tournament Raises $1300!

GolfPosterThank you to everyone who came out to support our golf tournament for the playground!! The weather was gorgeous and we had a great group of volunteers who came to help out.  Through the generosity of some local businesses and individuals we were able raise $1300 in just a few short hours!!  Thank you to Forest Park Country Club for your hospitality and for donating some items to our raffle!  Thank you to the 60 golfers who signed up to play.  Thank you to the volunteers who put in many hours of their time to make this evening a success.  Should we make this an annual event??

Golf Tournament to Raise Funds for Playground!

Friday July 11 at Forest Park Country Club

4-person Captain and Crew $25/person

We are looking for 16 teams to play in this Friday night tournament.  Sign up for tee times starting at 3pm.GolfPoster  There’s a poster sign-up at the club or you can email us at ctpptg@acrsd.net to register your team.

Registration fee includes golf and dinner at the club (hot dogs/burgers/salads/dessert)

There will be raffles too!  All money raised will go in the playground fund!

Spring Clothing Sale Set For April 12

Woman with Shopping BagsThe PTG is excited to announce our 1st Annual Spring Clothing Sale!  The sale will take place on Saturday April 12th from 9am-1pm.  Clothes will be available for sale at very low prices.

Please come in to score some good deals and support your PTG!

We are currently collecting  CLEAN and GENTLY worn clothing in children sizes 5-16.  These are a few examples of items we are looking for:

  •  pants
  • long sleeve shirts
  •  shorts
  • short sleeve shirts
  •  sneakers/shoes
  • pajamas
  •  sweatshirts
  • coats/snowpants

So please clean out those closets and even those bins stored in the attic, the PTG needs your help!  Donations accepted all week in the main office.

Fuel Raffle Drawing @ Spaghetti Supper on Tuesday

fuelraffleHave you gotten all of your fuel raffle tickets in yet?  If not get them in by Monday because we will have our drawing at the spaghetti supper on Tuesday!

This year we will have 2 winners of $250 each toward their winter fuel bill.  Come down to the Pasta for the Plunkett Playground event on Tuesday from 4-8 pm to take a chance at our other raffle items as well.

Raffle item donations are still needed.  If you have a gift basket, item, or gift certificate that we can put into the raffle please bring them to the school or contact us.  Thank you!
